National Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week (#PPPSWeek) takes place during the third full calendar week of July, from Sunday to Saturday. In 2023, this week is recognized July 16 – 22 and serves as a special occasion to recognize and appreciate the invaluable contributions made by over 100,000 dedicated individuals who work diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of our communities. The theme for this year’s PPPS Week is “Stronger Together.”
Community corrections professionals, including pretrial, probation, and parole officers, play a vital role in the criminal justice system. They work tirelessly to supervise and support individuals involved in the system, helping them reintegrate into society, make positive changes, and reduce recidivism rates. These professionals provide critical guidance, counseling, and assistance to offenders, aiming to facilitate their successful reentry into the community. Throughout the year, they face numerous challenges while working to maintain public safety, encourage personal growth, and promote positive behavioral change among those under their supervision. PPPS Week provides an excellent opportunity to express gratitude for their tireless efforts and recognize the immense impact they have on individuals and communities.
The theme for the 2023 PPPS Week, “Stronger Together,” highlights the significance of collaboration and unity within the community corrections field. By working together, professionals in this sector can enhance their collective abilities to promote successful outcomes for individuals under their supervision. Collaboration can take many forms, including sharing best practices, developing innovative approaches, and fostering partnerships with other criminal justice stakeholders, social service agencies, and community organizations.
At the SAW Project, we align with these elements and fully support the importance of working together. When we all are ‘rowing in the same direction’, we can make great progress! Sharing information about local successes and learning from each other magnifies the achievements and allows everyone to advance. Current technology even allows us to share these advances globally. Through this process we can become stronger together in our efforts to support social justice.
National Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week serves as an important occasion to recognize and celebrate the dedication of community corrections professionals who tirelessly work to keep our communities safe. By embracing the theme of “Stronger Together,” we acknowledge the power of collaboration and unity in the pursuit of effective and transformative justice.
